Really enjoyed this film, and I’ve actually been complaining about the amount of violence in movies lately, so it was refreshing to step down from my high horse and dive right in to “what the kids are watching these days.” I really liked it. I’m not a film snot really, in fact I’ve been so focused on music lately I really only get a sense of a film being good these days if there’s a lot of buzz behind it. Not only that, but I haven’t been to the theaters in over two years. Correction, I haven’t seen a movie in the theaters in two years. I’ve stopped by a couple of times just to buy popcorn. I know it’s a touch more expensive per bag, but I love our theater so much. I love that we’re helping a locally owned company that I really love here in my town. It’s the greatest theater experience I’ve ever had and we’ve seen them in Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and for us, none of those big houses gave me what I was looking for in a movie theater.
It’s late and I’m tired, so on to the reason I started this I’m going to look up the director’s name after I write this, Literally the only actor I recognized in this movie was Bob Odenkirk, so it was refreshing to me. I have enjoyed Bob Odenkirk’s career from his time on the Ben Stiller Show to, Mr. Show, and of course, his job acting as Saul Goodman. Really great character acting there.
I’m not going to write reviews that spoil any part of the thing. Maybe these will read more like opinion pieces? That could be fun. Whatever, I’m just going to write what I want to, maybe I’ll get good at it. Also, I just bought a nice 35mm Lens for my Camera. I’ve only ever bought lenses for my camera if it had to do with my day job, so this is my first lens paid for with the intention of just enjoying taking pictures again. It’s really refreshing how it’s hit me.
So yeah, Bob does a excellent job as Hutch Mansell. My right hip muscles are getting very sore again. I think I’ve got to be better about daily journaling so I can better pinpoint why these pains are happening to me. They come on slow like a cold and then for 2-3 days it gets so I have to walk with a cane, and my arm hurts…right at the shoulder. Woah, it is sockets that connect my arms and legs to my torso. I’m going to look into a doctor. What if that’s a symptom of some spinal cord problem? Like what if my neck sounds that I can hear when I move my neck, what if those are bones eating away at my spinal cord. You know what? This is my anxiety trying to win its place in the driver’s seat of my mind, and I’m not going to let it. I will make a Doctor’s appointment, but only because we have new insurance, and I’d like to get to the bottom of my dietary issues anyway.
So, yeah. It was a fun movie, if you like lots of manslaughter with a touch of murder all wrapped in a package that’s gritty but still very well lit, you’ll like this movie. I really liked that a lot of his back story was told to us in a way that was very natural and in harmony with the plot of the story. This could be the only film like this, and I’d be happy, but I would love this to be the start of a new kind of stylish crime drama. Looking forward to more work from this writer and director. Maybe they have a large body of work I can also enjoy, maybe it’s their first film, I literally have no idea, so that will be fun to find out. It fits in there with the John Wick movies, though I haven’t yet seen the third one, I enjoyed the first and second very much.
Okay, gotta go. Take care everybody. – SA
